![]() 15 For we are to God the pleasing aroma ( Q) of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. ( M)ġ4 But thanks be to God, ( N) who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma ( O) of the knowledge ( P) of him everywhere. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia. ( G) Ministers of the New Covenantġ2 Now when I went to Troas ( H) to preach the gospel of Christ ( I) and found that the Lord had opened a door ( J) for me, 13 I still had no peace of mind, ( K) because I did not find my brother Titus ( L) there. And what I have forgiven-if there was anything to forgive-I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, 11 in order that Satan ( F) might not outwit us. ( E) 10 Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. 9 Another reason I wrote you ( D) was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. 8 I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him. 7 Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, ( C) so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. 6 The punishment ( B) inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient. No matter where you are, you can shine in Christ and be a beacon of light and hope to someone else. Study the Bible verse of 2 Corinthians 2:14, and let the sweet aroma of the love of Christ beckon others home.5 If anyone has caused grief, ( A) he has not so much grieved me as he has grieved all of you to some extent-not to put it too severely. Just as He drew you out of a muddy pit, so you can draw others out through Christ!īut thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place (2 Corinthians 2:14). When the mercy of Jesus Christ has filled you, healed your heart, His love light shines through you for others to see. It’s like walking into a house where fresh, chocolate-chip cookies are being baked, and the sweet aroma fills every room. When you receive His grace into your heart and life and forgive yourself, then you can shine like a light for others who may be in a dark place. When we finally let go of the offense and receive His mercy and forgiveness, He manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. Paul also says in 2 Corinthians 2:5 that God, “manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.” His grace is sufficient for us ( 2 Corinthians 12:9), no matter what we’ve done or how many times we’ve done it. His mercy is like a giant, immovable rock that cannot be washed away, no matter how hard the waves beat against it. All the anguish and pain He felt, in His mind, body and soul-was punishment enough for you and for me. Jesus took every bit of the ugly, evil sin that man has ever committed or will ever commit-a burden too heavy and massive for us to comprehend-upon His own body on the cross. Unlocking the Truth – Mercy and Forgiveness Paul is thanking God in 2 Corinthians 2:14, “who always leads us in triumph in Christ.” No matter how evil the crime (whether we committed it or it was committed against us), mercy and forgiveness can be found in Jesus Christ. Paul also reminds us that all of us need forgiveness, and that any lingering condemnation causes division, which is Satan’s scheme toward us.Īnything that causes division between people is a device of the devil, and we must recognize the tools he uses to stir anger in the hearts of men, be aware of his devices and overcome them through Christ with mercy and forgiveness. Paul stated that the discipline was sufficient as it had brought forth a sorrow of repentance (2 Corinthians 2:6). Though they had followed Paul’s instructions of punishment by censuring him from the church, they were to now forgive him and receive him back into their communion, so the offender would not “be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow” (2 Corinthians 2:7). In this letter to the Corinthians, Paul is addressing the church who had banished a member from their community because of sexual immorality.
